Susan Grunewald is an award winning teacher, researcher, and author. Her digital and traditional research have been featured on public history podcasts and YouTube series such as WW2TV, History Hit, and Professor Buzzkill History. Her work combines cutting-edge digital humanities methods such as geographic information system (GIS) mapping and text analysis with traditional, archival sources to provide new understandings of Soviet and German World War II and Cold War History. Since 2025, she has been an Assistant Professor of European History at Southern New Hampshire University. From 2022 – 2025, she was an Assistant Professor of European History at Louisiana State University. She was previously the Digital History Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Pittsburgh World History Center from 2019 to 2022. She earned her MA and Ph.D. in History at Carnegie Mellon University (Pittsburgh, PA USA) and a BA in Rusisan and East European Studies and Minor in German at Lafayette College (Easton, PA USA). She is an alumna of the Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Program to Ulyanovsk, Russia, where she taught English in the Applied Linguistics Department of the Ulyanovsk State Technical University.
